Howe and his troops began the battle of New York City, in 1776. they landed on Staten Island in July with 9000 troops! pumped and SOOOO ready to kick some George Washington butt!! In the battle of Long island Howe and his men fought endlessly or so it semmed against General George Washington, the British troops were victorious, but they stopped and let the American troops escape, and return to plan or just take some time off. Howe also won the important battle of the White Plains against George Washington, again he didn't chase the Americans or destroy the continental army. Him and his troops returned to Fort Washington and captured the fort with 3000 prisoners and many supplies. This was a BAD loss for the Americans. He then captured Fort Lee, New Jersey, across the river from New York City. The British captured all of New York. New York was obviously Howe's MAIN objective; he built fortifications on Long Island and Manhattan.
THE BATTLE OF NEW YORK....
General Howe, enjoyed staying in New York. For the first part of 1777, Howe refused to fight, but when he did fight, he was victorious over George Washington in the battle of Brandywine, he then showed off HIS MANLY MUSCLES:] and took over Philedelphia as well. He got out his pen and paper and wrote to England asking for their permission to retire as Commander-in-Chief (sounds important ehh?) He recieved a letter from who ever he wrote to, stating it was fine to retire, on April 14, 1778, soon after he recieved the letter and all battles were done he sailed himself right back to England and retired...in 1793, that lucky little duck became a FULL GENERAL.
